Goodbye Letter from Ms. Katie Simes

Farewell FCMA. I will miss you.

It was an easy decision to make and an incredibly difficult one at the same time. Ultimately, the position I’m moving on to will allow me to spend more time with my family and work closer to my home. No brainer, right? The hard part now is telling everyone in this other family that I have, the amazing FCMA family, that I won’t be back next year. The relationships built with students, colleagues and families (some of us over seven years together), I hold in such high regard.

Though I taught before working here, I credit this place with really molding my teaching style and helping me find my voice as a teacher. So in my last few days, please know that I appreciate each and every one of you, and all the time we had together.

Thank you for sharing your time with me. Thank you for entrusting your children to me. Thank you for bringing me hot chocolate on those cold days in winter carline. Thank you for asking about my family as it grew. Thank you for saying phys ed instead of gym! Thank you for helping your kids remember their sneakers on PE days. Thank you for volunteering for Jump Rope for Heart, Kids Heart Challenge, and Field Days. Thank you for allowing me to have vulnerable conversations with your kids. Thank you for providing ingredients for the #fcmatestkitchen.

Thank you for challenging me. Thank you for choir practice. Thank you for reminding me when I had forgotten why I do what I do. Thank you for waving to me in the carline. Thank you for being a friend. Sorry if I cry, I’m just gonna miss you.
