Tell us a little about yourself. How did you come to FCMA?
“My son Sam was a student at Four Corners for three years before I started the music program in 2013. I started out part-time while I completed my dissertation and this year I will be teaching full-time! Prior to pursuing my Ph.D. at U of M, I taught in the city of Detroit (DPS, Friends School, University Prep) for ten years. This year marks my 18th year as a music educator.”
What do you think makes Four Corners great?
“Four Corners is a supportive community of people who care about the world we live in. I am constantly encouraged by the ways in which members of our community advocate and stand up for the things about which they are passionate, including each other. I am surrounded by teachers, students, and parents with very special gifts and talents. We know this because we value the unique contributions each individual has to make in this world and encourage everyone to let their lights shine brightly.”
Why do you love Four Corners?
“I brought my own son to Four Corners for preschool because I thought the Montessori approach was a great fit for him. Several years later, I brought my daughter, a completely different learner and personality, for the same reason. We stay at Four Corners because we are all better people for what we learn in this community. We feel a sense of connectedness and belonging.”
What are you looking forward to this upcoming school year?
“Most of all, I am looking forward to getting reacquainted with students, exchanging hugs, getting back into music-making, and welcoming new friends. I am also very excited to announce that the music program will be expanding to offer two music classes per week in PreK through grade three, and a new elective instrumental music program for students in grades 6-8. We will be fitting all interested students with wind/percussion instruments during the third week of school. Parents, please keep your eyes out for an announcement about this–including an evening informational/rental meeting.”
